No. The Color Treatment works like a manicure coat for your hair—it deposits color onto the surface of each strand without breaking open the cuticle. There are no harsh chemicals like ammonia or peroxide. The color builds gradually with use and fades naturally over 1.5 to 2 weeks with regular shampooing.

Color typically lasts 1.5 to 2 weeks and fades gradually with each shampoo. To extend the life of your color, use the Color Shampoo between treatments. When you notice grays beginning to reappear, simply reapply the Treatment.

We recommend being patient and using the product consistently at the beginning until you reach the desired shade - and then using it once every week or every two weeks thereafter.

If you have bleached or lightened hair (such as blonde highlights), the Treatment and Color Shampoo will darken those strands - even if you only apply at the roots. Lightened hair is more porous and picks up pigment quickly, including during the rinse-out process.

To cover new grays at the root while keeping your highlights bright, we recommend the Root Vanish Coloring Brush instead. Its precision brush tip lets you target only the gray roots without touching highlighted areas. For best results, distribute the gel evenly through the bristles with a tissue and apply in thin, controlled layers.

The Color Treatment is designed specifically for gray coverage. On dark hair, the color will coat the surface but won’t be visible against your natural shade, only the gray strands will show the color change. We recommend choosing the shade closest to your natural hair color for the most seamless, natural-looking result.
